In the winter of 2012 The Redlands Conservancy proceeded to develop an After School Program that would take place at one of their land acquisition. The San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary had recently been purchased and it was decided this land would be the best example of wildlands we still have. Our purpose was to developed an environmental studies curriculum to educate under-represented, low income, and nature-deprived kids on the north side of Redlands. This curriculum is called City Kids Go Outdoors and is into its second year. The presentation will focus on: A. 1. who to ask as an advisor and who to help as curriculum writers, 2. how to develop a timeline, 3. how already available curricula, such as Project WILD, Project WET, and Project Learning Tree can be utilized, 4. recommendations for funding 5. where to find students willing to act as stewards, 6. finding the right location for classroom and outdoor activities, 7. how to involve parents in the program. And 8. how and where this curriculum fits with STEM and Common Core. B. One activity we use in the classroom and one outdoors. C. Sign up for one or all of the workshops available in S. Cal from Project WILD, Project WET, and Project Learning Tree.
